  • Timing, metabolism, coingestants, renal function, and laboratory method alter interpretation.
  • Use contemporaneous laboratory values and the local laboratory's measured-osmolality method.
  • Suspected toxic exposure requires urgent expert or poison-center consultation; this tool does not recommend treatment.
