What this tool is based on
This versioned record keeps the citations, equation or decision rule, units, test coverage, intended population, and exclusions attached to the tool.
How evidence review works →Adults age 18 years or older in whom a creatinine-based indexed eGFR is appropriate.
2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation without a race coefficient, indexed to 1.73 m² body surface area.
Serum creatinine accepts mg/dL or µmol/L using 88.4 µmol/L per mg/dL. Result is indexed mL/min/1.73 m².
Published-equation cases, sex coefficients, unit equivalence, adult-age boundary, G categories, and invalid inputs.

Limitations and exclusions
- Not implemented for patients younger than 18 years.
- Creatinine-based estimates are unreliable during rapidly changing kidney function and may be biased at muscle-mass extremes.
- G category alone does not diagnose chronic kidney disease; chronicity and markers of kidney damage matter.
- Medication labeling may require Cockcroft–Gault, measured clearance, cystatin C, or de-indexed kidney function instead.
One clearly labeled, contextually relevant sponsor may support this reference area. Sponsorship will never interrupt inputs, obscure results, influence formulas, or imply clinical endorsement.
About this tool
CKD-EPI 2021 eGFR Calculator
Use this eGFR calculator for the 2021 race-free CKD-EPI creatinine equation in adults. The result is indexed to 1.73 m² and the calculation record remains visible.
The calculator converts supported creatinine units before applying the published adult equation. eGFR and Cockcroft–Gault CrCl are different estimates and should not be substituted without checking the intended use.
